Delivery & collection

For now, buyers collect in person and pay at hand-over. Here’s how to do that safely, and what’s coming next.

Collecting an item

Every MarketSafe deal is face to face for now. It’s the simplest way to know you’re getting what you pay for.

  1. Agree on the price, the place and the time in the MarketSafe chat.
  2. Meet in a busy public place in daylight. Tips for meeting safely
  3. Check the item properly before you pay. Switch it on, try it out, and look for damage.
  4. Pay at hand-over: cash, or an instant EFT that the seller sees arrive in their own banking app.

Big items like furniture and appliances

  • Big items often have to be collected from the seller’s home. Take someone with you, and tell someone else where you’re going.
  • Ask for the measurements in the chat, and make sure your vehicle (and your doorway) is big enough before you go.
  • Ask to see appliances working before you pay.
  • Sellers: have someone else at home, and move the item near the door if you can, so the buyer doesn’t need to come far inside.

Coming: Pay safely, with delivery

We’re working on a way to buy from sellers further away. Your payment would be held by an independent escrow service, not by MarketSafe, and only paid to the seller once you’ve received the item and confirmed it’s what was described. The seller would send it with a courier.

It isn’t available yet, and we don’t have a date. Want to hear when it’s ready?

Couriers and delivery fees today

Until Pay safely is ready, MarketSafe can only help keep a deal safe when you meet in person. Don’t pay for an item you haven’t seen, and don’t pay a courier, insurance or “clearance” fee upfront.

A seller who insists on a courier, or a “courier agent” who contacts you asking for a fee first, is a common scam. More common scams
