How to tell us about a listing that looks wrong, what we do about it, and what to do if you’re unhappy with a decision.

Draft: this page is being reviewed by our attorney before MarketSafe opens to the public.

How to report a listing or a member

Log in, open the listing and tap Report this listing. Pick the reason that fits best, and add a short note if it helps us understand. The seller isn’t told who reported them.

  • It looks like a scam
  • It’s fake or a copy of a brand
  • It’s an item MarketSafe doesn’t allow
  • The seller wants to chat or be paid outside MarketSafe
  • It’s offensive
  • Something else

To report a member, open their profile (tap their name on a listing or in your chat) and tap Report this member. To report something said in a chat, report the member and say what happened in the note, or contact us.

Blocking a member

If you don’t want to hear from someone, block them: open their profile or your chat with them and tap Block. Then neither of you can message the other, and neither of you can mark the other as the buyer of a sale.

We don’t tell them, but they’ll see they can’t message you. You can unblock them under My profile → Blocked members. Blocking doesn’t tell our team anything, so if they tried to scam or threaten you, report them too.

What happens next

  • Every report goes to our team, and we look at it as soon as we can.
  • When several established members report the same listing, it’s hidden from MarketSafe until we’ve checked it.
  • If it breaks our posting rules or terms, we remove the listing, and we can suspend or close the account.
  • A person makes these decisions. Reports never suspend anyone automatically.
  • We can’t always tell you what we decided, because it can involve another member’s personal information.

What we can and can’t do

MarketSafe doesn’t take or hold payments, so we can’t refund you, cancel a payment, or make a buyer or seller finish a deal. What we can do is remove listings, suspend or close accounts, and give information to the police when the law requires it.

If you’ve lost money, call your bank’s fraud line straight away and report it to SAPS. What to do if something goes wrong

Asking us to look again

If we removed your listing or suspended your account and you think we got it wrong, contact us. Tell us which listing or account it’s about and why, and we’ll look at it again.

Complaints about MarketSafe

If you’re unhappy with MarketSafe itself, for example how we handled a report or your account, contact us and we’ll try to put it right.

For a complaint about your personal information, contact our Information Officer (details on the contact page). If you’re still not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
