Posting rules

To keep MarketSafe safe and legal, some things can’t be sold here, and every listing follows a few simple rules.

Not on MarketSafe for now

Vehicles, property, services and jobs. MarketSafe is for buying and selling things, so listings like these are removed.

Rules for every listing

  • Use your own photos of the actual item. No stock photos or pictures from the internet.
  • Describe it honestly, including marks, faults and missing parts, and choose the right condition.
  • One item per listing. A set that’s sold together, like a table and its chairs, counts as one.
  • Put it in the right category, and list it only once.
  • Show the real price, not R1 or a made-up number to get attention.
  • No phone numbers, email addresses, links or social media names in the title, description, photos or video. Buyers message you on MarketSafe.
  • Only sell things you own and are allowed to sell.
  • Videos must show the item you’re selling. A person checks every video before it goes live.

When a listing breaks the rules

Our safety checks hold some listings for a person to look at before they go live. Members can also report a listing, and when several established members report the same one, it’s hidden until our team has checked it.

If a listing breaks these rules, we remove it. For serious or repeated breaks, or anything illegal, we can suspend or close the account, and we pass information to the police when the law requires it. A person makes these decisions; reports never suspend anyone automatically.
